SOUTH HAVEN -- Margaret Coryne Carter, born Dec. 15, 1916, in St. Louis, Mo., died at her home in Spring, Texas, surrounded by her loving family on Oct. 23, 1999.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert E. Carter; her loving sons, Robert Jr. and his wife Marianne Carter of Angleton, Texas, Mike and his wife, Romy Carter of Amarillo, Texas, and Charles and his wife, Sandy Carter of Highlands, Texas; and daughter, Patricia Ann and her husband Barry Nixon of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren; and brothers -- James (Buster) Diebold, Leo Diebold and George Diebold.
Coryne was raised in South Haven. After marriage to Robert Sr. at the outset of World War II, she accompanied him across the world to many duty stations while raising a family. She made Texas her permanent home in 1952. Coryne was a woman of many talents and extraordinary abilities. Her passions included cooking, bridge, gardening and, in later life, golf. She was an ardent Astros fan. During her long life, she filled many roles: loving wife and mother, homemaker, companion, entertainer, care giver and mentor. Her family will miss her deeply.
