Armena Pioneer Lars T. Grue Passes
Mr. Lars T. Grue was born Aug. 2nd, 1887, at Hawley, Minnesota. He immigrated with his parents, Thore and Beret Grue, to the Armena district in 1894. He was confirmed by Pastor A. E. Hanson in the Scandia Lutheran Church. On July 2nd, 1913, he was united in marriage with Avey Skaret, at which time they moved to their farm at Hay Lakes. Here he resided until his passing on March 5th, 1958, at 9:45 p.m., at the age of 70 years, 7 mos, and 3 days. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Church.
Mr. Grue leaves to mourn his loss: his loving wife, Avey; four sons, Oliver of Armena, Norman of Hay Lakes, and Chester and Wallace of Edmonton; four daughters, Amy and Gladys of Camrose, Velma (Mrs. Art Henkelman) of Edmonton, and Isabelle (Mrs. Bob Sherwin) of Redding, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and four brothers, Simon, Oscar, Theodore and Nels; also a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters. Blessed be his memory.
Funeral services were held in St. Joseph's Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 8th, at 2 p.m., Rev. Holte officiating. Service was as follows: hymn, "Still, Still With Thee"; obituary, by Rev. Holte; duet, "Be Thou Near", by Edwin and Evert; Rev. Holte spoke on Proverbs 27:1: "Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth"; Hanson Quartet, "There Is A Place of Quiet Rest"; hymn, "Take My Hand, Dear Father".
Interment took place in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. The pallbearers were Edwin Grue, Rodney Skaret, Wesley Throndson, Elmer Lindgren, Harland Grue and Marvelle Skaret. Hoveland's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
