Creswell, George Wallace passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at his home. Mr. Creswell was born on January 15, 1917 on a French Broad River farm near Kodak, Tennessee. He attended Carter High School where he obtained honors in livestock judging and participated in the national competition in Kansas City in 1937 and came in first in judging horses. After high school he worked as a machinist at a knitting mill in Sevierville, where he met his first and late wife Minnie Stanton. During the early stages of World War II he went to work with ALCOA as a precision machinist. In the early 1960s he and Minnie spent three years in Australia. During this period he had broad responsibilities for the installation and operation of rolling mill equipment at the Geelong works. Subsequent to his retirement he designed, constructed, and operated a sand dredging operation at the French Broad River farm. Since he came to Alcoa in the early 1940s he was a loyal and dedicated member of First United Methodist Church of Alcoa, having served in several leadership positions. In the early 1940s through the 1950s he was a volunteer member of the Alcoa Fire Department. He was extremely active in the Kiwanis organization until recent years. A lifelong Republican, he recently served as treasurer for Bill Claboughs successful bid for state senator. In addition, he was a 32 degree Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Oral Ruth whom he married in 1990.; son and daughter-in-law, James S. and Karen Creswell of Harpers Ferry, WV; granddaughters, Valerie Chance of Fredrick, MD, Cheryl Jacobson of Huntsville, AL; great grandchildren, Shelby, Logan, and Olivia Jacobson of Harpers Ferry, WV and Nicholas Chance of Fredrick, MD; brothers, C.L., John, and Arthur Creswell all of Knoxville and Ed Creswell of Strawberry Plains; sisters, Dorothy Roberts, Shirley Freeman, Joyce Griffin all of Strawberry Plains and Linda Miller of Knoxville.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2004 at First United Methodist Church of Alcoa with Rev. Joe Green officiating. Entombment to follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Memorial donation may be made to First United Methodist Church of Alcoa Building Fund, 617 Gilbert Street, Alcoa, TN 37701. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Alcoa.
