Elizabeth Virginia Jane Phillips was married at 16 years of age to Dr. Owen. They had two sons W. Henry Owen, b. 1850 and A. J. Howell Owen, b. 1854. Dr. Owen died of pneumonia in 1855. On December 4, 1859 she was married to Mathew Augustin Phillips, Jr., in Troup County Georgia by A. J. Scogin, J.P. They moved to Arkansas before the Civil War and there they had and raised their 9 children. She is buried beside Mathew Augustin Phillips, Jr. She was the mother of Neva Carroll Phillips Loftin.
