Emory Lewis "Johnney" Pyle, 82, of RR2 McAlisterville, Fayette Township, Juniata County, died at Brookline Manor, RR1 Mifflintown, where he had resided since April 3, 2002.

He was born in Wheatfield Township, Perry County, a son of George "Adam" and Annie (Maneval) Pyle.

On Sept. 13, 1947, he married the former Nedra Arlene "Ned" Brown, who died on April 2, 1992.

Mr. Pyle was educated at the Bethlehem Grammar Schoolhouse, RR2 Millerstown.

He served in the Army during World War II in the Headquarters Company 504th Parachute Infantry and was honorably discharged from his service duties on Nov. 29, 1944, with the rank of private. During his service, he was decorated with the European Theater Ribbon with two stars.

Mr. Pyle retired in 1981 on disability after employment for various companies as a carpenter. He was last employed as a millwright and had worked in the construction of Three Mile Island. Following completion of the nuclear plant, Mr. Pyle had worked at Hershey Foods. Earlier in his employment, he worked for the state Department of Transportation in Harrisburg.

Mr. Pyle was past president and a life member of the Fayette Sportsman's Association. He was a life member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 925 of Millerstown and a member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local Union 287, Harrisburg.

He cherished his family. He enjoyedhunting, fishing, farming and operating his Masse-Ferguson tractor, demonstrating his love of the outdoors, especially the mountains.

Surviving, are three sons, Ernie L. Pyle of RR1 Thompsontown, retired Cmdr. Stanley E. Pyle of Temecula, Calif., and Lt. Cmdr. Fred I. Pyle and his wife, Alexis, of Chesapeake, Va.; three daughters, Lucille M. Brubaker of Myerstown, Susan E. Kerstetter and her husband, Clair, of RR2 Millerstown and Florence E. Burchfield and her husband, Roger, of RR5 Mifflintown; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; one brother, Guy Pyle and his wife, Daisy, of RR2 Millerstown; five sisters, Mabel Pifer of Harrisburg, Zelda Hockenbroch of RR2 Millerstown, Alma Hepner and her husband, Raymond, of RR2 Millerstown, Pearl Brookhart of Liverpool and Iva Mae Bailey of Lancaster; and three generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan Pyle, in infancy, and Lloyd "Bill" Pyle, and one sister, Mary Pyle, also in infancy.
