U.S. Congressman. Born at Crowsville, South Carolina, he moved to Ohio, in 1803, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1804 and began to practice law Xenia, Ohio, in 1805. Appointed prosecuting attorney of Greene County, Ohio, in 1808, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses, serving (1813-17). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and was a member of the Ohio State Senate, (1822-23). He also was again the prosecuting attorney of Greene County, Ohio, until his retirement in 1834. He died at age 71 in Xenia, Ohio.
