Nov 6, 1929 - Carroll Times - J.W. Fiscus died Friday morning, November 1, 1929 at 7:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.H. Spurgeon of this city. Mr. Fiscus was ill but a few days and death was caused by a paralytic stroke.
James Whitcomb Fiscus was born in Owen county, Indiana, November 28, 1843, and with the exception of the last three years spent his entire life in his native state, where for fifty years he was engaged in the number business. For the last three years he has divided his time between the homes of his two children.
On February 22, 1866, Mr. Fiscus was married to Miss Matilda Arney and to them eight children were born. Mr. Fiscus was preceded in death by his wife and six children.
Surviving are a son and a daughter: O.S. Fiscus and Mrs. C.H. Spurgeon, both of this city. He is also survived by two sisters, one of whom resides in Illinois and the other in Indiana, and by 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A.J. Mueller, pastor of the Lutheran church, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Spurgeon home and burial was made in the Carroll cemetery.
