John Bentley Taken by Death

John S. Bentley, 69, died Aug. 20 in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Syracuse, after being a patient there for the past five weeks.

He was born April 30, 1897, at Pineville, son of Isaac and Dora Thompson Bentley. He attended Pulaski schools. He was married to the former Hazel Ballou Sept. 6, 1924, and they spent their entire married life in their Bridge Street home.

He was a charter member of Robert Edwards Post, 358, American Legion, having served in France during World War I in the Quartermaster Corps. He was also a member of the Pulaski Baptist Church.

Mr. Bentley was a harness maker for Brown's Hardware until 1941, when he opened his own business, a bicycle repair shop. His health forced him to retire from this business in the spring.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; his brother, Isaac L. Bentley, Lacona; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Ina) Halsey, Cortland, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 22, at the Foster Funeral Home, with the Rev. Uewellyn Jones, pastor of the Fernwood Baptist' Church, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek
