Catherine Ann "Katy" Albright Stover was born at the home of David Albright and Anne Metzler Albright in Elizabethtown, PA on July 6, 1950. She was to be the third of seven children. The family moved often, as her father was a pastor for the Church of the Brethren. The Albrights also lived in Cerro Gordo, IL; Laverne, CA; Nampa, ID; and Fort Wayne, IN. She was baptized in 1963. As a high school student in Fort Wayne, Katy was active in her church youth group and was active in music--she sang and played the piano, harp and flute, all with varying degrees of success. Katy was active as a cheerleader both in high school and for a time at McPherson College, McPherson, KS, where she graduated with a degree in education and a teachers' certificate.

In college she helped set the school record for the 440 relay, sang and traveled with the Acappella Choir, and live in Kline Hall Dormitory with a group of wonderful ladies. Perhaps most important was her job on campus working to revitalize the student union basement, for it was there that she began to form her lifelong relationship with her co-worker, Phil Stover.

After graduation from college, Phil and Katy were married on August 12, 1972 in Fort Wayne, IN, by her father and with some help from her new father-in-law, Stephan Stover. Two days after the wedding, law school began for Phil. Katy kept busy with three jobs, earning money for travel to New Zealand with Phil's family. Living together for a year "down under" brought Katy into the hearts of her new extended family.

Back in the states and law school, Katy and Phil began their own family with the birth of Jennifer Anne in 1974, the first of four daughters. With law school over, the family moved to Quinter, and Katy taught for two years at Park, KS. She retired from teaching to raise her growing family and to give birth to Sarah Mae in 1978. In amongst Bethel Bible class, play group, Kids Praise, LaLeche League, food co-op, Sunday School teaching, serving as Sunday School superintendent, helping with school plays, directing church pageants, directing and teaching Bible School, and singing in the choir, Katy also delivered daughters Elizabeth Elaine in 1979 and Rebecca Marie in 1983.

It was Valentine's Day 1984 that Katy received the diagnosis of breast cancer. With this her life did not change, as much as it became more intense and more intentional. She now added to her schedule the study of conventional and alternative treatments for the cancer. She also taught part-time for eight years at Quinter High. The doctors gave her five years to live, she asked the Lord for ten, and the Lord gave her fourteen.

Catherine Ann "Katy" Albright Stover, 47, died January 12, 1998 in her home in Quinter, KS. She is survived by her husband S. Philip Stover, and her four daughters: Jenny, Sarah, Elizabeth and Rebecca; her parents W. David and Anne Albright of McPerson, KS and Quinter; her parents-in-law Stephen L. and Enid Stover of Manhattan, KS; one sister Mary Nell Albright Hoover, Flossmoor, IL; five brothers: Jim Albright, Huntington, IN; John Albright, South Freeport, ME; Mark Albright, Goshen, IN; Peter Albright, Glendale, CA; and Matt Albright, Waterford, MI; and four sisters-in-law: Nancy Stover, Merrily Stover, Sue Stover, and Celia Hansen; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and all of her brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 15, 1998 at the Quinter Church of the Brethren. Graveside services and internment will be Fri. Jan. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Quinter Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, the 16th day of Jan, 1998 at the Quinter Church of the Brethren with Pastor David Albright officiating.
