Sunday Reburial For Robert Lee Shipman

Funeral rites for Robert Lee Shipman, gunner's mate, third class, whose body arrived Thursday in Stilwell, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Roberts Funeral Home, with Rev. Leonard Stewart, Baptist minister, officiating. Burial was in New Hope cemetery. Born June 7, 1921, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elvis Shipman of Ellinwood, Kan., he was 24 years, one month and 28 days of age when he met his death in action August 5, 1945, on Peleau Island. Other than his parents he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Halean Myer of Hondo, Texas, and Mrs. Clifford Kendall of Olathe, Kas.; three brothers Elza, George and Jack all of Ellinwood, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Batie Vick of Covington. HE WAS RESCUED AFTER 5 NIGHTS AND 4 DAYS AT SEA BUT LATER DIED ON THE ISLAND OF PELELIU. HE WAS AMONG 880 CREWMEN THAT PERISHED FROM THE USS INDIANAPOLIS.
