Anna Stasia (Moffett) Asmus, 89, of Great Falls, a homemaker, died of natural causes Monday, Oct. 15, at a local nursing home.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at O'Connor Funeral Home. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Power, with burial to follow in Emmanuel Cemetery in Power. O'Connor Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Anna Stasia Asmus was born in Golt, Md., on Dec. 21, 1922, to George Henry and Hattie (Foraker) Moffett. During Anna's teen years, she was also raised by her aunt and uncle, Georgia and Earl Whittill in Philadelphia. She went to various schools in Philadelphia, Maryland and Delaware.

On July 22, 1943, she met Martin William Asmus of Power in Delaware. On April 9, 1944, they were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Power. Martin and Anna bought a farm on the Fairfield Bench after he came back from overseas after World War II. In 1965, they moved into the town of Fairfield, where they had various jobs.

Anna was a member of the Power Zion Lutheran Church and Fairfield's St. John Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League in Power.

She enjoyed writing poetry of all types for community events, anniversaries, birthdays, holidays and special occasions. Her particular specialty was patriotic poems because of her love of her country and because her husband had served in the Army Air Corps. She wrote social news and poetry for the Fairfield Times for many years. She loved playing hymns on her harmonica and giving recognition to her Lord and Savior in almost every poem.

Anna is survived by her daughters, Marilyn and son-in-law Richard Dickhoff of Great Falls, Shirley and son-in-law Robert Dickhoff of Chehalis, Wash.; sister Mary Moffett of Wilmington, Del.; grandchildren Lisa (Jeff) Belling of Apple Valley, Calif., Michelle (Scott) O'Hara of Chehalis, Scott (Rachelle) Dickhoff and Todd Dickhoff of Great Falls and Chad (Pattey) Hoff of Chehalis. She was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren: three in Apple Valley, two in Great Falls, six in Chehalis and one in ElCajon, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hattie Moffett; her husband, Martin in 1995; a daughter, Darlene in 1954; four brothers, John, David, Edgar and Jim; and five sisters, Georgia, Evelyn, Reba, Mildred and Ruth.

Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church in Power or St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfield.
