Christian Charity of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died Thursday
morning, Jan. 22, 2004, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at
Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of
Christian Burial will be the Ev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem with burial
at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The former Blanche Roels was born Nov. 20, 1910, in Green Bay, daughter
of the late John and Irene Schelter Roels. She entered the Convent in
1928 and professed her vows in 1931. Sister Verona earned a Bachelor of
Arts degree from St. Norbert College, DePere. Sister Verona served as an
elementary teacher and/or principal at St. Mary, Bloomington; St.
Andrew, Manitowoc; St. Anthony, Marinette; St. Mary, Algoma; St. Mary,
Rhinelander; St. Mary, Clarks Mills; Corpus Christi; Sturgeon Bay; St.
Mary, Hilbert; Holy Rosary, New Holstein; and as a homemaker at St.
Joseph, Green Bay. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1993 and has been a
resident of St. Rita Health Center since 1998. She is a member of the
Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three
sisters and a brother-in-law; Frances Losey, Crandon Florence Diederich,
Seymour; Margaret and Anthony Diederich, DePere; two brothers and
sisters-in-law: John Roels, Green Bay; Bernard and Marge Roels, DePere;
Patricia Roels, Anaheim, Calif.; Mildred Roels, Green Bay. Nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday where a prayer service will be held
at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is
assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
