Melvin E. "Gene" Quigley, 79, of Division Lane, Vanport, passed away Friday, July 14, 2006, in the emergency room of The Medical Center, Beaver. He was born March 15, 1927, in Sistersville, W.Va. and was a son of the late James Melvin and Christina Sine Quigley. Mr. Quigley had been a lifelong resident of Vanport, was a retired millwright from J&L Steel, Aliquippa, and was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church of Beaver. A former Sgt. with the Vanport Police Department, he was a member of the Vanport Volunteer Fire Department and was a Navy Veteran of World War II attaining the rank of Seaman 2nd Class. He served in the American, European and Asiatic Pacific Theaters. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy M. Beggs Quigley; four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Dorothy Quigley, Vanport; Phil and Debbie Quigley, in Mississippi; Jed and Pam Quigley, Vanport, and Rick and Becky Quigley, Vanport; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Luigi Paliani, Ambridge; grandchildren, Lori Prentice, Luigi Paliani, Sean Quigley, Holly Beveridge, Jason Quigley, Andrea Quigley, Sydney Quigley, Jed Quigley Jr., Stephanie Quigley, Cassie Quigley, Matthew Quigley, Leah Quigley and Justin Quigley; 12 great-grandchildren, and a brother, William Thurl, New Kensington.In addition to his parents, he was preceded by siblings, Helen Quigley, Clarence Quigley, Cyrus Quigley, John Quigley, James Quigley, Nellie Brock, Viola Galloway, Bernice Columbine, Wanda Kirk and Frank Quigley.
