Wesleyan minister. Christopher (Christian) Sundius (1754-1835) was born in southern Sweden and went to university and Naval College. He travelled to England and offered his services to the British Navy. He continued his service there until after his first marriage in 1782. Christopher attended services at John Wesley’s Foundery in Tabernacle Street in 1777 and was converted in 1780. As he had an extensive knowledge of foreign languages he was appointed to the Admiralty in 1800. He held this post until 1829. Sundius was one of the founding members of the British and Foreign Bible Society, which began in 1804 and was also one the first promotors and directors of the London Missionary Society. As trustee of the Swedish Protestant Church in London he assisted in the formation of the Society of Friends of Foreigners in Distress. After the death of his first wife in 1796, Christopher married Jane Vazeille Smith, the step-grandaughter of John Wesley. He had nine children with each wife. Sundius died in March 1831 and is buried in the family grave in City Road Chapel, next to John Wesley's grave.
