Jennings, La. - A Jennings man yesterday died of injuries received in a car-train collision here Aug. 12.
He was Murray Buchanan, 65, 434 Third St. Buchanan, a former resident of Lake Arthur, had been a patient at American Legion Hospital since his car was struck by a Southern Pacific passenger train at the Cary Ave. crossing.
Mrs. Buchanan, who was riding with her husband, was injured. Her condition is reported improved.
Funeral services for Buchanan are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in the Lake Arthur First Methodist Church. Rev. William Mayo, pastor of First Methodist Church of Jennings, will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery near Lake Arthur with Miguez Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The body will remain at the funeral home in Jennings until 8 a.m. tomorrow when it will be taken to the Lake Arthur Methodist Church.
A former justice of the peace for Ward 1, Buchanan had oil and land interests in the area. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 346 in Lake Arthur.
A native of Lowry, he had lived in this area most of his life. He was a veteran of World War I and World War II. During the Second World War, he served as a chief petty officer with the U.S. Coast Guard.
Survivors include his widow, the former Alice Conner and one brother, Blair Buchanan of Jackson, Miss.
