Bob was an avid golfer throughout his life and recorded his only "hole-in-one" in Japan. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher of the "Doer's" class, a deacon and a member of the choir. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Barnette was the son of the late Esley Newton Barnette and Jessie Eva Hamrick Barnette. He was also preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years, Nelma Hallman Barnette; a daughter, Jenny Lee Barnette; a son-in-law, James Hull; and a brother, Winfred Lee Barnette.
He is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Hull of Lattimore, Lori Goodwin and husband Ed of Edenton, and Donna Noblitt of Shelby; brother, Johnny Barnette of Shelby; sister, Pat Young of Henrico; five grandsons, Gene McCurry, Jamey Hull, Kenji Goodwin, Kaz Goodwin and Ben Noblitt; and two great granddaughters, Brooke McCurry and Sarah McCurry.
Visitation: The family will receive friends after the celebration of life service. The family will also be at the home of his daughter, Donna Noblitt, 3414 W. Stagecoach Trail, Shelby.
