Mrs. Leander Jackson McCarty
Mary Jane Metzker, daughter of John and Nancy Metzker, was born in Iowa, October 16, 1860, and departed this life at the home of her son, Charley McCarty in Belleville, March 7, 1936, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 20 days.
When 10 years of age she came to Kansas with her parents in a covered wagon drawn by an ox team. The remainder of her life, with the exception of short intervals, was spent in Kansas.
She was married to Leander Jackson McCarty January 7, 1879 and to this union were born five children, four of whom survive her. One daughter, Mrs. Blanche Brown, passed away January 16, 1929, and her husband, Leander J. McCarty, on December 12, 1933.
The surviving children are J.A. McCarty, North Platte, Neb.; Orville and Charley McCarty of Belleville, and Mrs. Grace Brown of Glasco; also 22 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was converted when a child and her faith in God was steadfast to the end. Funeral services were held March 9 at the Charles McCarty home in Belleville and at Mill Creek Friend's church near Cuba, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Weeks. Interment was made in Hawks cemetery.
