Oscar P. Adams
Died in Troy, October 28, 1907
Oscar P. Adams, aged 72 years, 8 months and 2 days. Mr. Adams was the oldest child of James Adams, deceased, and was born in Troy, February 25, 1835. His mother's maiden name was Malinda Potter, a sister of Nicholas Potter, now living near East Troy, in his 94th year. She died August 26, 1848. Mr. Adams was married to Miss Jane Willis March 20, 1860. They had one son, Albert, who died in childhood, and one adopted daughter, Miss Josephine Bird. The wife and daughter survive. Mr. Adams enlisted as a Union soldier in a New York regiment in 1861 under William R. Wilson as captain, and served three years, a the end of which time he reenlisted as a veteran and served until the close of the war. Mr. Adams had two own brothers, James Otis, who survives, and Morton K. who died in Mobile, Ala., June 20, 1872. His sisters were Eliza J., present wife, and Martha M., former wife of Rev. T. Mitchell, and Harriet E., Mrs. George Brown, of Rutland, Vt. Of the above sisters, Martha died in Fountain, Colo., and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs. Mr. Adams' father was married the second, time August 14, 1850, to Miss Eliza Mosher, who died November 15, 1886. From this union there came to Oscar one half-brother, William, and half-sisters, Clara, Kate, Emma J., and Mary Jeanette. All these survive except Clara, who died in childhood. William resides in East Orange, NJ, Kate and Emma in Coxsackle, and Jeanette in Elmira, NY. Kate is the wife of Platt Coonley. The funeral was held from the house today at 2 p.m., the Rev. Robert E. Roe, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal church, officiating. Burial in Glenwood cemetery.

The Gazette-Register of last week contained a notice of the death and funeral of Oscar P. Adams. His burial was under the control of the Grand Army of the Republic. David Compton of Troy, and five of those who had been members of the company to which he belonged, acted as bearers, viz: Gabriel Mullock of Waverly, George Steinberg of Elmira, John Canedy of Sylvania, Oliver Booth of Grandville, and Edward Buffum of Troy. Mr. Adams lived in Troy from the time of his birth. He was a man of good morals and industrious habits. He had an extensive acquaintance and numerous friends, many of whom were at the funeral. He was descended from a long list of honorable aucestors. His great grand-father, Seth Adams, who is buried in Glenwood cemetery, was a revolutionary soldier. His grand-father, Gaius Adams, came from Massachusetts and settled in Springfield, Pa., in 1808, 99 years ago, and only four years after the first settlement in that township, He had a family of five sons and four daughters. The sons were Henry Lewis, James, Bela, Joel and Jere. Lewis died in Springfield, aged 82; James in Troy, aged 85; Bela in Rome, Pa., aged 68 and 10 months; and Jere, who died in Agawam, Mass., aged about 75 years. Joel is the only surviver of the family and lives in Troy, nearing his 84th year, having been born January 10th, 1824. In addition to the church service, the burial service of the Grand Army was read at the grave.
