Son of John H. Crouch and Sarah Shipman Reed Crouch

Married Sarah Jane Tripp on 21 October 1852 in Pope County, Arkansas (Marriage Book B, Page 55)

Solomon served along with his brother William Crouch during the Mexican War as a private in Co. B (under Capt. David West), Lieutenant Col. William Gray's Battalion of Arkansas Infantry and Mounted Rifles. The company served from 01 July 1846 to 20 April 1847 and was sent to Indian Territory to keep the peace and allow U.S. forces there to enter the war. The Battalion occupied Fort Gibson and Fort Wayne in Indian Territory.

Later during the Civil War, Solomon enlisted on 14 July 1863 in Green County, Missouri and served as a private in Company E, Second Arkansas Cavalry Regiment, USA
