Joe was survived by his wife of 42 years, Vicky Cordova; daughter Michelle Archuleta; special granddaughter Analisa Archuleta; Noberto, Maureen, Brandy and Meilssa Armijo, raised as his own; sisters: Olivama Pacheco of Chamisal, Ross Cordova (companion Lillian) from Rodarte, Maclovia Fresquez and Anselmo of Las Vegas, Nevada; Lenora Pacheco of Santa Fe, Rosana Abeyta (husband Johnny) of Chamisal, Dina Duran (husband Robert) of Peñasco; sisters-in-law: Theresa Mascareñas of Dixon, Kate Abeyta of Peñasco and Rose Montoya (husband Henry) of Colorado; and brother-in-law Paul Abeyta.
Joe served in the Armed Forces from 1966-1968 and served in the Vietnam War. He worked construction all his life, and has had part in constructing many roads and bridges throughout the state of New Mexico. He also worked for Cooks Construction in Española for many years until his retirement. Joe was quiet and a very reserved man; he never said no when anyone needed help. He was always working on his yard, his vehicles, and loved listening to KDCE in his garage.
A Rosary and funeral services were on October 20, 2012 at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco. Burial was in the Chamisal Catholic Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers: Paul Abeyta, Juan Abeyta Sr., Robert Duran, Richard Pacheco, Bobby Cordova Jr. and Wayne Mascareñas. Honorary pallbearers: Billy Cordova, John Abeyta Jr., Denny Abeyta, Florcencio Pacheco, Kevin Martinez and Kenneth Romero.
