Fred married Mary Emma DeLong on Mar 21, 1894 in Raton, Colfax Co., NM: They had the following children:
1. Elsie Densmore Burt b. 1895.
2. Mildred Emily Burt b. 1898.
3. Arletta Adelia Burt b. 1900.
4. Percy DeLong Burt b. 1904.
5. Jerry Francis Burt b. 1908.
6. Victor William Burt, Sr. b. 1911-12.
Fred and 'Mamie' Burt left their farm in Kansas in 1926 as a result of the "Dust Bowl" and moved to California. They initially traveled to Seattle to visit Fred's sister Etta and her husband Fred Robbins and then drove to Southern California where they joined Elsie and Midge who had gone there earlier.
The family first lived in a house on Havenhurst in Hollywood, then they bought a farm on Van Owens in North Hollywood which they lost because a loan intermediary failed to forward their payments on to the mortgage company. They later bought a farm on Sherman Way (near Woodman Avenue) in North Hollywood and raised crops and chickens.
Fred died of cancer in 1938. Mamie continued to live on the farm for a few years until her children convinced her to sell it and move to a smaller and more manageable place on Beck Avenue in North Hollywood. She was very fond of birds and had an aviary out back where she had a number of favorite canaries and parakeets.
