Klamath Falls, died March 16, 1997, in Klamath Falls.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday in O'Hair's Funeral Chapel with Pastor Robin Barrett officiating. Interment will be in Bonanza Memorial Park. Mrs Gowen was born Oct 28, 1900, in Seattle, Wash. to Frank Goodner and the former Edna Gorrie. She attended elementary school in Seattle before graduating from San Juan Union High School in Natoma, Calif. She graduated from San Jose State College in 1920. She began her teaching career in a school at Crow's Landing, Calif, and later moved to Chiloquin, where she continued teaching and met here future husband, Ed Gowen. They were married June 26, 1923. Together with Curtis Heidrich, they operated Klamath Supply, a general store in Chiloquin. In 1926, they moved to Sprague River and built and operated the General Merchandise Store there until 1929 when they sold the store and bought a rangh in Bonanza. They raised cattle and sheep and grew hay, grain and potatoes on the ranch. They sold the ranch in 1947 and later moved to Kalmath Falls. Two years after the death of her husband, who had served as a Klamath County Commissioner for 12 years, Mrs Gowen moved in 1970 to clairmont Retirement Centre in Klamath Falls.
She enjoyed travel, gardening, fishing and playing bingo, pinochle and bridge. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Don Horsley, Bonanza; granddaughter, Donna Jo Temple, Sacramento, Calif; grandson, Steve Horsley, Stuttgart, Germany, three great-grandchildren.
