MINE CAPTAIN DIES SUDDENLY
J.M. Goldsworthy Suffers Heart Attack and Dies at Geneva Office
The long career of Capt J. M. Goldsworthy as a mining man was terminated suddenly this morning when he was found dead shortly after 11 o'oclock in his office at the Geneva mine shaft. One of the workmen at the shaft discovered that he was dead.
It was only about 15 minutes before his death that he complained of having severe pains in his breast. He was found dead on the floor of his office. The physician who was summoned said that an attack of the heart caused death.
Capt. Goldsworthy suceeded Harold Davidson in charge of operations at the Geneva mine shaft which is being sunk by the Oliver Iron Mining Co. He had been in the employ of the Oliver Co. for the last twelve years as a mine captain.
Capt. Goldsworthy was born about 50 years ago in England and when only a few years old came with his family to this country. In 1913 he made Ironwood his home coming here as a mining engineer. In 1918 he was placed in charge of operations at the East Norrie mine but a year later was disabled because of an operation. For the past year he had been in charge of operations at the Geneva mine.
Capt. Goldsworthy is survived by the widow and two children, Mary Elizabeth and Pollyanna. Two sisters, the Misses Polly and Jane Goldsworthy of Iron Mountain also survive him.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow noon at the family home 131 South Mansfield street with the Rev. D. S. West officiating. Following the services the body will be sent to Itron Mountain for burial. He was a member of the Masonic order.
