~Robert Hayes McNeill~

Robert Hayes McNeill, 90, 3212 Garfield Street, N. W., Washington, D. C., died Saturday afternoon (Dec. 23, 1967) at Doctor's Hospital in Washington after an illness of a few hours.

Mr. McNeill was born April 25, 1877 in Wilkes County and was a son of the late Milton and Martha Barlow McNeill. He was a graduate of Wake Forest College, and graduated from Wake Forest Law School in 1897.

He was admitted to the North Carolina Bar Association in 1898 and the U. S. Supreme Court Bar in 1903. He was a member of the American Federal Bar Association and was senior and dean of the Washington Bar Association, having been admitted in 1903 and serving for 64 years.

He was married to the former Cora Brown, daughter of George H. Brown, on December 17, 1902, and they went to Washington, where he served as secretary to Senator Jeter C. Pritchard.

Mr. McNeill was granted his honorary Doctor of Law degree from Wake Forest College in 1934, and he served on the Alumni Council for numerous terms. He held a keen lifelong interest in politics.

Mr. McNeill served as general counsel for the National Daughters of The American Revolution, former president of the North Carolina Society in Washington, former president of the Southern Society in Washington, was a member of the Clan of McNeill of American and was a member of The Saint Andrew’s Society. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, and served as a trustee of that church.

Mr. McNeill is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Frances McNeill Easley of Washington; one son, Attorney George H. McNeill, of Morehead City; and one grandson, who is a student at Wake Forest Law School.

Funeral services for Mr. McNeill were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning (Dec. 27, 1967) at Nicholson Funeral Home. Interment followed in Oakwood cemetery.
