She was a long time member of the Garden Club of Memphis and a life member of Les Passees of Memphis, and had served as president. She met her first husband, Robert Knight, at Tulane Medical Center where he was on staff as an orthopedic surgeon and she worked as an RN. After he received a fellowship from the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, the young couple moved to that city and began a family with the addition of Robert Spencer Knight in 1949. After a tragic auto accident in 1959 took the lives of her husband and son and left her with severe injuries, she began the arduous task of healing and rebuilding her life. She went back to school and earned a degree before meeting another special someone, Fred Owen, of West Memphis, Arkansas. She and Fred wed in 1962 when Angela made the move "across the river" to West Memphis and immediately became involved with her new home town. A frequent visitor to Gulfport over the decades, Angela never lost the love for her hometown, Gulfport. After the death of her beloved father and several years after her mother lost her home in Hurricane Camille, Angela brought her best friend, her mother "Miss Ann," to live in West Memphis where she remained in Angela's loving care until her death. After husband Fred's passing, she continued living in their home of forty plus years where she enjoyed family, friends, socializing and gardening. Angela was a joy and inspiration to all who knew her. She was a member of a fading breed of genteel, compassionate, strong and kind Southern woman called "lady". A visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home on O'Neal Road, Gulfport, followed by graveside services at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
