Businessman-Entrepreneur. He graduated from Notre Dame with a C.E. degree in 1890, where he was also a champion athlete. He married Mary Visscher Wendell in Detroit on Feb, 19, 1900. He began an active career as a civil engineer on Chicago Drainage Canal, and later with the Central Michigan RR as assistant engineer. He later worked for the WO Rend Coal Co. in Chicago in the coal mining business. He assisted in organizing his own business in Detroit in 1903, Jewett, Bigelow & Brooks, miners and wholesale dealers in coal. He was a member of the Michigan Naval Reserve and served on board the U.S.S. Yosemite during the U.S. war with Spain. In 1909 he teamed up with Fred Paige and formed the Paige-Detroit Motor Car Company. The first Paige-Detroit vehicle was released in 1910. In 1912 Harry decided to change the name of the vehicle to Paige and no longer use Paige Detroit. During World War I the plant was devoted exclusively to Government service. In 1919 the plant was back in full production with several models of vehicles being built. In 1922 the first Jewett vehicle was introduced, a lower priced vehicle that would hopefully capture a larger portion of the market. In 1926 the last Jewett rolled off the assembly line. In 1927 the last Jewett built Paige was manufactured and Harry Jewett sold out to the Graham Brothers, forming the new company of Graham-Paige.
