Naomi Smith Martin Nov. 1, 1917 - Jan. 6, 2012 age 94, of North Canton, passed away on Jan. 6, 2012 at Chapel Hill Retirement Community. She was born in Rockville, Mo., on Nov. 1, 1917 to the late Leonard and Anna Hegnauer.

Naomi was a graduate of McKinley High School (Class of '35) and Heidelberg College (Class of '39), where she received her teaching degree. Naomi taught home economics at Timken and Lehman High Schools for 40 years.

The last years of her teaching career she served as the coordinator of the Home Economics Department of the Canton City School System. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in North Canton for 26 years and had been a member of Lowell United Church of Christ for over 50 years. She also was a past member of the Canton Woman's Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lotta Nelson; her brother, Leonard Hegnauer, and her first and second husbands, Arthur F. Smith (June 14, 1970) and Carl W. Martin, Sr. (Oct. 9, 2009). She is survived by her son, two grandchildren, three great- grandchildren and a sister.

Viewing will be on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 for one hour prior to services from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Chapel Hill Retirement Community, 12200 Strausser St. Canal Fulton, Ohio 44614. Burial will be in North Canton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice or to Habitat for Humanity. The Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel is entrusted with they arrangements.
