Sister Fintan Murphy, age 92, a member of The Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, died Sunday evening, Aug. 22, 2004, at Holy Family
Convent.
The former Gertrude Murphy was born Feb. 12, 1912, in Sault Ste. Marie,
Mich., daughter of the late Frank and Francis Plaunt Murphy. She entered
the convent in 1935 and professed her vows in 1938. Sister Fintan served
as a homemaker at St. James, Cooperstown; Sacred Heart, Sherwood, both
of Wisconsin; St. John Indian Mission, Komatke; Sacred Heart, Covered
Wells; San Jose Indian Mission, Pisinemo; San Xavier, Tucson; and St.
Peter, Bapchule, all of Arizona. After retiring from active ministry,
she performed various services at Ozanam Home, New Berlin, and St.
Francis Convent, Manitowoc. Since 1991, she has been a resident of St.
Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse. She is a member of the Franciscan
Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include: the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a
sister: Irene Riggs, Saute Ste, Marie, Mich. Also surviving are nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where a prayer service will be
held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at
Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of
Christian Burial will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem, with burial
at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is
assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
