The 4th of 5 children born to Howard Booth and Jennie Palmer. John's father served in the Navy and the family moved frequently while he was growing up. Eventualy they settled down at home of the Pacific Fleet in San Pedro, California.

After finishing school John got a job working at a film developing plant. There he met Nita Maxey who recently came from Texas. They fell in love and were married in 1950, it lasted for over 60 years. In the late 1962 they moved to Orangvale, California to live in the country. Here John became a master-printer with Aerojet.

John is the father of 5 children, 7 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was very active in the Church and served many years as a deacon then briefly as an elder with the Orangevale Church of Christ. He printed the church bulletin and various bible correspondence for many years for the church. In 1985, John spent a month with Nita in Kenya, Africa working in the misssion field.

He was an avid Airplane enthusiasts.
