SARANAC LAKE - Virginia R. Bowen, 84, of Saranac Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at AMC-Uihlein Center in Lake Placid.

Born in Saranac Lake on Sept. 23, 1928, she was the daughter of John and Dorothy (St. Loius) Martin. Virginia married Philip Bowen in First United Methodist Church in 1976. He predeceased her on Oct. 29, 1999.

Virginia had been employed as an operating room technician at the Adirondack Medical Center for many years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake and was an avid reader.

She is survived by one son, Daniel Martin, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandsons: Daniel and Cory Martin of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Betty Martin, of Saranac Lake; and two brothers: Robert Martin and Preston Burl, both of Saranac Lake.

She was preceded in death by her father; mother; three brothers: Donald and Peter Martin and Albert Theriault; and two sisters: Joan Ormsby and Dorothy Sexton.

Calling hours will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will immediately follow at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Internment will take place in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
