Maria Bourne, wife of Roswell K. Bourne.

Maria's maiden name is given in some sources as Rosina Mariah Carpenter, but she was called Maria in her husband's will, in her obituary, and in many newspaper stories.

Her obituary was in the Cincinnatus Times, April 4, 1901. The obituary gives the following information. She was born July 26, 1815, in New Berlin, Chenango County, to Nathan Carpenter and Sybil Hill Carpenter. In her early life she was an active member of the Methodist church in Brackel. (Her father is buried there, in what is left of the old cemetery.) Maria married Roswell on March 24, 1836. Their children were Mrs. Henry Knickerbocker of Cincinnatus, R. Walworth Bourne of Willet, and Mrs. Josephine Riddell of Montclaire, N.J.

Maria lived another 35 after Roswell's death. Most of this was in their house on West Main in Cincinnatus. (Her grave is a short distance behind her old house.)

Maria's last days were spent at the home of her son, Roswell Walworth Bourne, in Willet.
