Sister Rose Gertrude McCarty, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, age 96, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died early
Saturday morning March 15, 2003, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2003
at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem will
officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at Holy Family
Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born Mary Margaret McCarty, on July 19, 1906 in Manitowoc,
daughter of the late DeWitt and Mary Margaret Mohr McCarty. Sister Rose
Gertrude earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of St.
Joseph, Albuquerque, N.M. She entered the Convent in 1922 and professed
her vows in 1925. She is a member of Franciscan Sisters of Christian
Charity. Sister Rose Gertrude served as an elementary teacher at St.
Joseph, Sturgeon Bay, St. Therese, Appleton, St. Anthony, Oconto Falls,
St. Mary, Hilbert, Sacred Heart, Manitowoc. St. Joseph, Oneida, St.
Anthony, Neopit, SS. Andrew & Thomas, Potosi, St. James, Cooperstown,
Wis.; SS. Peter & Paul, Wellston, Ohio, St. John, Komatke, St. Peter
Mission, Bapchule, St. Anthony, Topawa, Sen Xavier, Tucson, Queen of
Angels Mission, San Miguel, Arizona; Sacred Heart, Ayrshire, Iowa; Holy
Family, Lindsay, Neb. and St. Charles Lwanga, Chicago, Ill. She retired
to St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc in 1991 and has been a resident of St.
Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse since 1999.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; one
sister, Lorraine Knipp, Tucson, Arizona, a sister-in-law, Bernice
McCarty, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also
survive.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at
Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. A Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m.
on Tuesday.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home is assisting with funeral arrangements.
