Sister Leo Francis Lewis, age 83, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, died Wednesday morning, May 21, 2003, at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at
Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of
Christian Burial will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem with burial
at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The former Luella Lewis was born Dec. 10, 1919, in Antigo, daughter of
the late Walter and Marie Wood Lewis. She entered the convent in 1935
and professed her vows in 1938. Sister Leo Francis earned a Bachelor of
Arts degree from the College of St. Joseph, Albuquerque, N.M. Sister Leo
Francis served as a teacher at St. Therese, Appleton; Holy Rosary,
Kewaunee; St. Michael, Whitelaw; St. James, Cooperstown; St. Philip,
Green Bay; St. Mary, Brillion; Corpus Christi, Sawyer; Sacred Heart,
Manitowoc; St. Rose, Clintonville; St. Mary, Rhinelander; St. John,
Antigo; Holy Redeemer, Two Rivers; St. Anna, New Holstein, all in
Wisconsin; Immaculate Conception, Yuma, Ariz.; St. Nicholas,
Zanesville,Ohio; St. Ambrose, Ironwood, and St. Anne, Escanaba, both in
Michigan. She also served in the Admission and Switchboard Offices at
Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, and performed various services at St.
Anthony, Oconto Falls; Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc; and San Damiano
Convent, Slinger. Since 2000, she has been a resident of St. Rita Health
Center at the Motherhouse. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity.
Survivors include: The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a
sister: Marie Schremp, Antigo; along with nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday where a prayer service will be held
at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is
assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
