Sister Francis George Leibfried, age 93, a member of the Franciscan
Sisters of Christian Charity, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, at
Holy Family Convent Chapel. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial
will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem with burial at Holy Family
Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The former Angela Leibfried was born Aug. 1, 1907, in Potosi, Wis.,
daughter of the late George and Helena Wubben Leibfried. She entered the
convent in 1924 and professed her vows in 1927. Sister Francis George
earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Holy Family College and a master
of Education Degree from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO. Sister
Francis George served as a teacher and/or principal at St. Mary, Algoma,
St. Mary, Brillion, St. Boniface and Sacred Heart, Manitowoc, St.
Therese, Appleton, St. Joseph, Waukesha, St. Anthony, Oconto Falls, St.
Agnes and St. Philip, Green Bay, Wis., St. Anne, Menominee, St. Francis
Xavier, Petoskey, St. Anne, Escanaba, Mich., St. Sylvester, Woodsfield,
Ohio and Guardian Angels, West Point, Neb. She also served as Directress
of Postulants at the Motherhouse. After her retirement from active
ministry in 1981, she performed a variety of services at Holy Family
Convent. Since 1995, she has been a resident of St. Rita Health Center
at the Motherhouse. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a sister,
Agnella Ragatz, Potosi, Wis.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday where a prayer service will be held
at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting with funeral arrangements.
