Dale Melvin Hiestand, son of Wallace K. and Dora M. (Stuber) Hiestand. On 21 August 1948, he married Jane Ellen
Kayler in Alliance, Stark County, Ohio. PFC Hiestand served in Battery D, 125th AAA Gun Battalion (Mobile). He was awarded the European-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Belgian Fourragere. This 90mm gun battalion helped defend England, Antwerp and Liege against German “buzz bomb” attacks. For its role in the defense of Antwerp, the unit earned the Belgian Fourragere.
