Sister Frances Kurran, age 90, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2001,
at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem will
officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial with burial at Holy Family
Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born March 27, 1911, in New York City, N.Y. She entered the
convent in 1923 and professed her vows in 1929. Sister Frances earned a
bachelor of arts degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere, and a master
of arts degree from Creighton University, Omaha, Neb. Sister Frances
served as a teacher and/or principal at St. Peter, Ashton, St. Theresa,
Appleton, St. Patrick, Askeaton, St. Joseph, Rice Lake, St. Patrick,
Maple Grove, St. John, Seymour, Sacred Heart, Sherwood, Sacred Heart,
Manitowoc, all of Wisconsin; Catholic Central, Steubenville, Ohio, and
St. Mary, Delaware, Ohio; and St. Willibrord, Chicago, Ill. She also
served as director of the Southern Region from 1972 to 1978 and as a
parish minister at St. Anthony, Oconto Falls, and St. Joseph, Green Bay.
After her retirement from active ministry, she performed a variety of
service at St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc, and St. Joseph Retirement
Community, West Point, Neb. Since 1995, she has been a resident of St.
Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday, April 17, 2001. A Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy
Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting with funeral arrangements.
