Dan Geister provided the following obituary from the November 13, 1924 Spring Valley Sun:
"Toger [sic] P. Fagerbakke was born June 8th, 1837 in Sigdals Prostigjeld [sic], Norway. In 1859, at 22, he came to America. He came to Gilman Township in 1867.
"In May 1870, he married Mathilde Marie Aamodt; to them were born six children, four girls, the first one dying in infancy, and two boys.
"His wife died February 25, 1885, leaving him with his five children. The baby, who was only five months old, was adopted by his father's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hulback, of Woodville.
"He lived on his farm in Gilman until 1909, when he had an auction and rented it to Ole Olson. In 1913 the farm was sold to Harris Hovde.
"On November 11, the same year, he went to live at Skaalen's Home for the Aged at Stoughton. The last year he had been gradually failing, and about a month ago he became so ill that he had to remain in bed.
"One of the inmates of the home informed his son and daughter of his condition and they went to see him Friday October 31. His daughter remained with him until his death November 4, 1924.
"He leaves to mourn his death, Clara, Ida, and Albert of Portland, Oregon, Oscar Hulback of Woodville, and Mrs. Oscar Mattison of Gilman, also seven grandchildren.
"Funeral was held Saturday at the Gilman church, Rev. S. Berven officiating and burial was made in the Gilman cemetery."
Note: A Torger Pedersen, son of Live Nielsdatter and Peder Torgersen, was baptized in Sigdal on 18 June 1837 (Family History Library Film Number 124192).
