Sharon Lee Hankins, 69, of Anacortes, Washington died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Island Hospital in Anacortes.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes, with a reception to follow at the Chapel.

Sharon Lee Hankins, 69, of Anacortes, Washington passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 from a very short, but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on October 20, 1942 to Gerald and Barbara (Linton) Yeager in Bellingham, Washington.

Sharon married Robert Lanphere in 1961 and they had two daughters, Barb and Debbie. In 1973 Sharon had another daughter, Emily.

In 1986 she married Jesse Hankins and became a second mom to Rhonda and Shawn.

Sharon worked as a dietary clerk at Island Hospital for many years before her retirement from there. She and Jesse traveled to many different places over the last seven years but they spent the winters at Meridian RV Resort in Apache Junction, Arizona, this becoming their second home.

Sharon enjoyed bowling on many different leagues before taking off in the motor home.

She was an avid fan of Skagit Speedway, enjoyed watching NASCAR, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, and Washington Huskies, or other teams if those teams were not playing.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Barbara; brother, Mike Yeager, and son-in-law, Dave Abbott.

She is survived by her husband, Jesse; daughters and sons-in-law, Barb Abbott, Debbie Loop, Emily and Brad Walls, Rhonda and Scott Eddy, and Shawn Hankins. Sharon is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Janie Yeager; 11 grandchildren; 5-great-grandchildren and another one on the way.

The family would like to thank the nurses at Island Hospital and Doctor Hogge for the care of Sharon during her last days.
