Elise was the daughter of Johann and Maria Schlueter Roepke, who emigrated from Hanover the year before she was born. They had a farm in the township of Newton. She was confirmed at St John's Ev Lutheran Church (Newtonburg). She married J.E.Kolloge on Sept. 19, 1869 (from St John's records). They settled in Milwaukee owning a home at 636 6th St. Census records indicate they had 10 children, only 5 surviving in 1910. Her husband had a hardware business, Hilgendorf, Kolloge & Co. Her brother, J.Dietrich Roepke relocated from Manitowoc to Milwaukee around 1890 and was employed as a clerk in the store.
