He was born Nov. 17, 1908, in North Sanford, the son of Lewis L. and Mary (Tilyou) Alger.
He married Flora Jeffers on Nov. 1, 1978, in Oneonta. Mrs. Alger died Oct. 11, 2004.
He attended schools in Milford. Richard was a self-employed dairy farmer. He owned and operated two dairy farms in Milford and Roseboom until his retirement in 1972.
Richard is a former member of the Milford Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Steidle and Mrs. Elizabeth Scutt, both of Oneonta. He is also survived by five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
There will be no public calling hours.
