Warren Roy Collins, 99 years old of Jesup, IA, died Friday, October 12, 2012, with his family by his side at the Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care Unit, Independence, IA.

He was born August 15, 1913, in Peoria, IL, the son of George H. and Ruth (Engler) Collins.

He grew up in South Dakota and moved to a farm in the Jubilee area south of Jesup in 1930.

On October 21, 1938, he was united in marriage to Stella Mae Ulm in Maquoketa, IA.

Warren owned a livestock trucking business, limestone & excavation business and farmed most of his life. He graduated from auctioneer school in 1940 and became well known for his Auctioneering skills.

His accomplishments in auctioneering included Iowa State Champion Auctioneer in 1967. He was a member of the Iowa Auctioneers Association and served as their president in 1959. He was also a lifetime member of the National Auctioneer Association, serving on their board of directors for 4 years and was the only member out of 7000 to attend the National Auctioneers Conventions across the U.S. for 50 consecutive years. He was awarded Iowa Man of the Year in 1981 and was elected to the National Auctioneers Hall of Fame in 1984. Warren was also part owner of the Independence Livestock Market for 14 years. He served on the board of the Iowa Livestock Market Association. He was an active member of the Jesup Lions Club for 65 years, and held memberships in Siloam Lodge #222, El Kahir Shrine and was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Jesup.

Mr. Collins is survived by his wife Stella of Jesup; three sons, Roger (Sheila) Collins of Jesup, Virgil (Mitzi) Collins of Independence, IA, Clark (Maggie) Collins of Guttenburg, IA; one daughter, Connie (Lester) Ott of Jesup, IA, daughter-in-law, Kay (Zuck) Collins of Greeley, CO; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one son, Ivan Collins; two brothers, Glenn and Wilbur Collins; three sisters, Mable Peters, Bernice Steward, Maxine Argent and his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. – Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, IA with Rev. Dawn Pederson officiating.

Burial will be at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorial donations will be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of arrangements.
