Sister Kochan, nee Marie Anna Kochan, was born May 29, 1896 at Francis Creek, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Anton and Anna Seibert Kochan. She entered the convent in 1917 and professed her vows in 1920. Sister Kochan had earned Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Holy Family College, Manitowoc. She had taught middle and upper grades at Manistique, Michigan, Mingo Junction, Ohio; West Wrightstown, Wisconsin; Petoskey, Michigan; Kaukauna, Wisconsin; Neopit, Wisconsin; Wellsburg, West Virginia; Cambridge, Ohio; Antigo, Wisconsin; Hollandtown, Wisconsin; Appleton, Wisconsin;p Marquette, Michigan and Green Bay, Wisconsin. Sister also served as Principal at St. Anthony's at Marinette, Wisconsin and St. Anna's at New Holstein. Sister Kochan then cared for the sick and elderly at Holy Family Infirmary until her retirement.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three sisters, Mrs. Julia Crechard, Mrs. Ann Teetz and Miss Cecelia Kochan, all of Manitowoc; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Loretta Kochan of Manitowoc; a niece, Sister Leonette Kochan of Yuma, Arizona and a nephew, Ralph Kochan of Manitowoc. Friends may call at Holy Family Convent Chapel, from 4 pm to 7 pm Tuesday. Pfeffer Funeral Home of Manitowoc assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
