Mr. Chapman was one of the oldest engineers in point of service on the Southern Railway, having served for 45 years.,
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, a mason, and an elder in the Eau Claire Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Samantha Moore Chapman, one daughter, Mrs. T. R. Andrews, three sons, Dr. J. W. Chapman of Walterboro, First Lieut, C. G., Chapman of the Army Medical Corps, First Lieut. J. H. Chapman of the Army Dental Corps, four sisters, Mrs. Sophia Blease, Miss Ada Chapman, both of Columbia, Mrs. Lizzie Ward of Belfon, Pa., and Mrs. Mary Adeline Walker of Charlotte, N. C., three grandchildren, Miss Nancy Chapman, Jeff Chapman III, Miss Carolyn Andrews, also several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers for the funeral will be deacons of the Eau Claire Presbyterian Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of the Church and members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Division 85.
