Mr. Arlie Hughes, 76, of 5002 Swanson Road, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point. The Rev. Barry Solomon will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Thomasville.
Mr. Hughes was born June 7, 1927 in Davidson County, a son of Homer and Myrtle Gallimore Hughes. A lifelong area resident, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement, Mr. Hughes was employed by the Carolina Concrete Co. He attended Christ Way Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Hughes and Clifford Hughes.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Ferguson Hughes of the home; four daughters, Martha Ann Curol of High Point, Linda Williams of Greensboro, Cindy McCarn of Thomasville and Ramona Green of Tenn.; seven sons, Craig Allen Hughes, Ronald Dale Hughes, Donald Eugene Hughes, Gary Arlie Hughes and Darrell Ray Hughes all of High Point, Harrell Lee Hughes of Winston-Salem and Roger Dale Barnes of Tenn; one brother, Robert Hughes of Thomasville; 33 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
