Emma J. Graves was born at Binghamton, New York on May 15, 1851. When a small child she removed with her parents to Franklin Grove, shortly after, coming to Amboy, where she has since made her home. On June 23, 1873 she wa married to A. R. McElhiney. Two children were born to them, Mrs. Minna A. Johnson and Mrs. Evelyn C. Ives, both of this city, and who mourn the loss of a loving mother. She leaves a mother, Mrs. Graves, one brother, Abram Graves and a half brother, Leon Saquin, all of this city.
About fourteen years ago, Mrs. McElhiney joined the Congregational church, Rev. N.T. Edwards being pastor at that time. Owing to the illness of Rev. Chandler, her present pastor, the funeral services were conducted by Rev. E.W. Annable of the Baptist church, at her late residence on Wednesday, April 11th at 3:30 p.m. Interment at Prairie Repose Cemetery.
