Susan Elizabeth Varner was the daughter of John & Nancy Powell Varner. She married (1) William Graves Varner Dec. 21, 1837 in Lowndes Co., AL. She married (2) Rufus Wiley Dacus Feb 21, 1860 in Montgomery Co., AL.

Susan and William were first cousins. Their fathers, John Varner and Frederick Varner, were brothers. William was a planter in Lowndes Co., AL, near Hayneville. He took over his father Frederick's land after Frederick moved to Louisiana. He and Susan lived on it and farmed it until his death. He had 3 slaves in 1840 but his slave ownership grew to 15 by the time of the 1855 AL State census. He wrote his will 22 Dec 1857; it was submitted for probate 2 Mar 1858. He left his entire estate to his widow, Susan.

Searched on February 8, 2018. Carefully combed the Varner & Powell family plots, but could not locate this person's headstone.
