Reinhold Herrman, Liebenthal, 87, died Oct. 22 at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus, Hays.

He was born March 7, 1910, at Liebenthal, and married Emma Wolf on Nov. 20, 1929, in Liebenthal.

A lifelong resident of Rush County, he was a farmer and owner and operator of Herrman and Sons Custom Cutting and Trucking. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus at Hays, and Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight of Council No. 2340. He served as Big Timber Township trustee from 1942 to 1990 and county assessor from 1942 to the late 1980s.

He was mayor of Liebenthal from 1971 to 1982. He served on the school board for Schoenchen High School.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melvina; a son, John; four brothers, Bart, Frank, Walt and Adolph; and two sisters, Matilda Leiker and Agnes Klaus.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, LeRoy L., Hays, Vernon E., Andover, James "Artee, " Liebenthal, and Ronald, Austin, Texas; three daughters, Velma Carver, Liebenthal, Marilyn Randa, Manhattan, and Karen Jarmer, Great Bend; five sisters, Cecilia Sanders, LaCrosse, Mary Barnes, McCracken, Stella Miller, Newton, Isabella Schuckman, LaCrosse, and Geneva Champlin, Las Vegas; a brother, John, Salina; 25 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Janousek Funeral Home, LaCrosse. The Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Adorers of Hays will have a rosary at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, followed at 7 p.m. by a parish rosary, Knights of Columbus and Fourth Degree Assembly, Hays. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Liebenthal, with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Liebenthal.

Memorials can be made to the St. Joseph Church Trust Fund or Rush County Long Term Care.
