Suggested edit: Possibly the son of George & Anna Barbara (Myers) Breneiser, he married Rebecca Fitzsimmons August 17, 1847, and fathered Catherine (b. @1850). In 1860, he was a teacher living in York, York County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 10" tall with auburn hair and brown eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Philadelphia August 21, 1861, understating his age by five years, mustered into federal service there August 23 as 1st sergeant of Co. I, 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry (108th Pa), but discharged by surgeon's certificate June 4, 1862. He also enlisted - this time understating his age by nine years - in York August 23, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 26 as a private with Co. K, 200th Pennsylvania Infantry, but discharged the service by surgeon's certificate from the military hospital in York for "hemiplegia."

In 1890, he lived in York Borough, York County, where he died from a heart attack; his obituaries in the Carlisle Weekly Herald, Carlisle Sentinel, and Harrisburg Telegraph refer to him as "Colonel"
