Son of Dr. Francis Joseph D'Avignon and Elizabeth Ann ________ .

Husband of Carrie B. Hart, who he married in Essex County, New York in approx 1880.

D'Avignon was a physician like his father and served as a community doctor almost his entire adult life. He began a practice in Ausable Forks on 9/12/1875, after having practiced for eighteen months at Clintonville, New York. He was a graduate of the Louisville Medical College of Louisville, Kentucky.

The Ticonderoga Sentinel newspaper reported on 10/13/1919 the following in regards to Dr. D'Avignon:
"PHYSICIAN HUNTER WOUNDED - Dr. D'Avignon in Montreal hospital. Victim of accident. Dr. Francis J. D'Avignon, the well-known Lake Placid physician, is in the hospital in Montreal with a serious wound to his thigh, sustained in an hunting accident in Pontiac, Quebec. Still hunting with Peter Carrow of Ausable Forks, he was walking ahead of Carrow when the latter's rifle wad accidentally discharged and the bullet passed through the physician's thigh. The bullet, a soft-nosed one, fortunately did not hit bone but the flesh was badly lacerated. The wounded man had to be carried thirteen miles through the woods to a railroad station on a stretcher. The wound was in a septic condition by the time Montreal was reached and, therefore, of a serious nature. However, he is reported to be getting along satisfactorily."

The US Census of 1880 shows Frank as living with Hannah Weldon, actually Hannah Wendell, in Black Brook, Clinton County, New York. It is believed Hannah was related to the family. Since she is appears to have never married, she may by a maternal aunt. Frank is recorded as being a physician-surgeon and that he is widowed.

The 1905 New York State Census shows the family living in Black Brook, Clinton County, New York. Frank is a physician and his son Joseph, age 20, is in school, probably medical school as he too, would later become a physician. The family is recorded under the name " Frank Davignon". This is a common misspelling of the last name.
