He was a veteran of the US Army and served his country during World War II.
Rev. Ponder served as pastor of nine different churches in Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, and Florida. He was also a former carpenter and building contractor.
He was survived by his wife; a daughter and son; three sisters, Eva Williams, Cleva Woody, and one still living; three brothers, G. Arnold Ponder, Earl Ponder, and Zane Ponder; seven grandchildren.
Rev Ponder's funeral was held on Monday, June 23, 1986 at Locust Grove Baptist Church.
Burial: Church Cemetery.
